Trying out for a competitive soccer team can feel exciting and maybe even a little overwhelming—for both kids and parents. At Charlotte Rise FC, our Academy Teams for ages U8–U19 give players the opportunity to train year-round, play high-level matches, and grow both on and off the field. This blog walks you through exactly what to expect for the 2025–2026 tryouts.
Who Can Try Out?
Players from U8 through U19 (birth years 2018–2007) are eligible for Charlotte Rise FC Academy Team tryouts. Whether your child is moving up from recreational soccer or has been in a structured program before, we welcome motivated players ready to learn.
If your child loves soccer and wants more challenges, there’s a spot to try out.
What Do Academy Teams Include?
Being part of an Academy Team means much more than games.
- Two training sessions per week led by professional coaches
- Weekend league matches (~12 games per season)
- At least three tournaments annually
- A 7-week winter program with indoor soccer and skill work
- Year-round player development with clear pathways for growth
Academy life offers consistency, structure, and development opportunities all year.
When Are Tryouts?
Tryouts for the 2025–2026 season take place in late spring and early summer. Exact dates are released on the Charlotte Rise FC website. Players must register online before attending.

What Happens During Tryouts?
Our coaches evaluate players in a supportive, game-like setting.
- Technical skills: dribbling, passing, first touch
- Tactical awareness: spacing, decision-making, game IQ

We look at the whole player—not just who scores the most goals.
What Should Players Bring?
Preparation makes a difference. Players should come ready with:
- Soccer cleats and shin guards
- A properly inflated ball
- Water and healthy snacks
- Weather-appropriate training gear

What Does It Cost?
For 2025–2026, Our Tryouts are totally FREE. But the Academy registration is $1,300. Additional costs include:
- Uniform kit ($349)
- Referee fees, tournament fees, and travel expenses

- State Cup entry fee
